Dr. Eric Anderson, Associate Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design in the History of Art and Visual Culture and Fulbright-Freud Visiting Scholar to Vienna, traveled to Greece on an Intercountry Lecturing Award, invited by the Schools of Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Polytechnic School in Athens, and the Athens based Society of Greek Art Historians.
Following a first lecture in Thessaloniki, Dr. Anderson spoke about 'Design In and Out of the Vitrine: Museums and Exhibitions in 19th Century Vienna' at the School of Architecture in Athens on Wednesday, April 5, tackling the transformations of perception in Vienna during the 1870s as a result of changing practices in display and presentation at museums, department stores and private homes.
Dr. Anderson’s teaching and research encompass the history of modern interiors, architecture, furniture and product design, the history of design exhibitions and publications and the relationship between design and the social sciences. He recently published an article on the intersection of theories of fashion and interior design and is currently writing a book on the culture of design in Ringstrasse Vienna.
